Another stunning Canadian curling lineup change was announced this morning as Team Matt Dunstone has released their third.

“After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to part ways with B.J. Neufeld,” read a team statement.

“B.J. has been an integral part of Team Dunstone for the past two and half years, helping to secure multiple World Curling Tour championships and becoming the 2023 Tim Hortons Brier silver medallists.”

Neufeld, a 38-year-old real estate agent based in Winnipeg, has competed in nine Briers which includes a victory in 2019 (and world silver) as third for Kevin Koe.

Neufeld has also scored medals at an additional four Briers and two Olympic Trials, and has won seven Grand Slam titles.

Neufeld was quoted in the statement.

“Although I’m sad and disappointed I’m no longer a part of Team Dunstone, I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to battle alongside some of the best humans in the game,” Neufeld said.

“Matt, Colton, Ryan, Adam and Caleb… the bonds and friendships that I fostered with this team is something I hold very dear to my heart and I wish all the success in the world for all of you.

“Excited to see where my curling journey will take me next!”

The statement praised Neufeld, who “has a tremendous amount of passion for the game, and both his work ethic and character helped shape the success of Team Dunstone.”

The team statement ends with word that an announcement “in regards to the future direction of Team Dunstone” will be made shortly.

This latest move continues a trend of Canadian men’s teams making late quadrennial lineup changes as next year’s 2025 Olympic Trials competition looms large, now less than a year away in Halifax.
